MAGAZINE: Monthly Asuka

SUMMARY: The manga follows the story of a girl named Shinou Kana who is in search of her missing father. Her search leads her to cross paths with Hei, as her father is connected to a man named Krang whom Hei and Mao are after. She stumbles across a fight between Hei and Krang and Hei attempts to erase her memory of the event. Unfortunately for him, she does remember and their fates become intertwined. Hei and Mao must now protect her from various Contractors that are after her life while she continues to find the truth about what happened to her father.
The Darker than BLACK manga is very different from the anime series. Familiar anime characters such as Yin, Huang and Amber are not in the story. Instead, Kana and her family, Krang and Kanon become a part of the series. Hei, Mao and November 11 are currently the only characters that are in both the anime and manga, and generally have the same personality and abilities. Hei is still looking for his sister, but his search for her seems to be becoming less important in the manga as protecting Kana becomes more of a priority. The manga carries the same basic premises in regards to Contractors, Dolls and Hell’s Gate, but the story line becomes much different since the focus is on Kana rather than Hei.
I personally did not enjoy the manga as much as the anime, but I watched the anime first and therefore have probably become a bit biased. The characters of the manga did not interest me as much as Yin, Amber and the others did, and I did not like that the focus was taken off of Hei and placed on Kana in the manga either. The story is okay for what it is, but I definitely prefer the anime. The manga series is not complete yet, so I have not completely given up on it, but I do not expect much enjoyment to come out of it. I do not mean to bash the manga version, as it does have its good points, I just want to express that I think the anime was done much better.
If you would like to give the manga a try, feel free to head over to One Manga in order to do so.
