About the Site

The Gate was opened on April 6, 2008. I originally planned to make a shrine dedicated to Hei for quite a few months, but then the project fell through when I temporarily stopped watching the series to catch up on studying for exams. Many months later, I had been contemplating making a general site to the series, and the fanlisting to the series was up for adoption. I figured I would give it a shot and apply since Darker than BLACK is my favorite anime series, but said I would make the site regardless of if I was chosen to adopt it. Much to my pleasant surprise, Emma let me adopt the fanlisting so I set out to work on the tribute. It is currently hosted on my main domain, irisblade.org, and it will stay there unless circumstances happen to change.

Darker than BLACK was really the only series that stood out to me on the list of spring anime series back when it first aired. Hei caught my eye immediately, and I just knew that I would like the series. After watching the first episode, I was completely hooked. I could barely wait for the following week to see the next episode and therefore re-watched the episodes I already had downloaded. I had not been that obsessed with an anime series since InuYasha, which is really saying something for Darker than BLACK. I had to make some sort of dedication to the series, and I ended up with this site.

I decided to call the tribute "The Gate" for two reasons. When Emma owned the fanlisting, she called it "Beyond the Gate", and I ultimately decided to shorten it because I wanted it to fit on buttons and other things easier and I thought it sounded kind of neat. The title is from the following HOWLING lyrics:

Now I've lost it, I know I can kill.
The truth is just beyond the gate.
Hell's Gate is obviously a strong presence in the series, and with everything I said above, I believed it would make a good title.
